- Description
- The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has a requirement for the acquisition of two (2) pulse L-Band tunable power amplifier klystron electron tubes, NSN 5960-00-390-5670, Varian part number VA963A, from Communications and Power Industries (CPI), Indus, VA. These tubes were manufactured by Varian PGTP, San Carlos, CA. These klystron electron tubes are critical components used in the support of the Air Route Surveillance Radar 3 (ARSR-3) long-range radar. The ARSR-3 sends primary radar data to the air route traffic control center.
These klystron electron tubes were designed and manufactured by Varian PGTP, San Carlos, CA for use in the ARSR-3. Varian sold their proprietary rights to the development, design and test data to CPI. CPI retains the proprietary rights to the original design and technical data applicable to the klystron for use in the ARSR 3 radar systems. The FAA intends to solicit and negotiate only with Communications and Power Industries (CPI), San Carlos, CA in accordance with AMS Policy 3.2.2.4.
A market survey was conducted on October 25, 2001, and the results of this survey support our determination to solicitation and negotiate with only one firm. This announcement is for information purposes only, not a request for proposals.
