- Description
- The Naval Sea Systems Command intends to award a sole source contract modification to Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS); 4101 Washington Avenue; Newport News, VA 23607; for the procurement of: CVNX Main Propulsion Unit (MPU) Detail Design and Technical, Engineering and Support Services for MPU Detail Design, Manufacture and Test Specification. As the only builder of aircraft carriers for the United States Navy, Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) has developed the unique technical and engineering support and capabilities required to design, construct, modernize, and repair aircraft carriers. These unique capabilities include designing and integrating the CVNX MPU. NNS will have completed the preliminary design phase for the CVNX MPU by December 2001 and is the only source capable of sustaining the design effort through the detail design phase to ensure proper integration of the MPU i nto the CVNX engine room.
