- 2 ORDERS/ TOTAL QTY: 996 GALLONS/ NSN: 8010-01-260-9066 /UI: GL/ ENAMEL, LUSTERLESS, ZINC PHOSPHATE, STYRENATED ALKYD TYPE In accordance with Military Specification MIL-E-52891B, dated January 28, 1988. QPL qualification required QPL-52891-15, dated Sept. 1995. Color: OLIVE DRAB Color shall be in accordance with FED-STD-595B color number: 34088 A can containing 3.78 liters (one gallon) of paint. Age on delivery shall not exceed two months. Date of reinspection shall be 12 months from date of manufacture. EXCEPTION(S) TO TECHNICAL DOCUMENT: Para. 3.4.1, Page 6, Table II footnote 2/ Delete: Lead chromate (PbCro4) may be substituted on an equal weight basis. Add: The manufacturer shall certify that the coating does not contain lead or chromate. ITEM MARKING: In addition to the marking required by MIL-E-52891B paragraph 3.6, the following shall be added: (1) Lot or batch number (2) Date of manufacture and reinspection PACKAGING: The product shall be furnished in the units indicated and packaged as follows: GALLONS AND QUARTS: Material shall be furnished in round, compound lined double-seamed end metal cans with multiple friction closure of the type normally used for the product. FIVE GALLON CANS: Material shall be furnished in new removable head metal shipping pails meeting the requirements of the Department of Transportation regulations and the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code. For products not subject to the Performance Packaging requirements of these regulations, a minimum pail thickness of 24 gauge is required. All containers shall be such that there will be no interaction chemically or physically with the contents so as to damage the container or alter the strength, quality or purity of the contents. One and five gallon containers shall be provided with a bail type handle in accordance with normal commercial practice. The filled containers shall be closed in a manner that will insure that the contents will not spill or leak from the container during shipment, handling, storage and redistribution. Closure of each quart can shall be secured by non-spill devices [four (4) evenly spaced clips or overseal ring] in accordance with 49CFR173.6(b)(4). Material packaged as specified above shall be packed in a close-fitting, corrugated, fiberboard box conforming to Section 6(a), Rule 41 of the Uniform Freight Classification, Item 222 of the National Motor Freight Classification (200 minimum burst). Closure of the boxes shall be in accordance with Section 7 of Rule 41 of the Uniform Freight Classification. Gross weight of the box and contents shall not exceed 65 pounds. MARKING: All unit, intermediate, transport packages and unit loads shall be marked for delivery to civilian activities in accordance with the FED-STD-123G, dated June 6, 1997, or marked for delivery to military activities in accordance with MIL-STD-129N, dated 15, May, 1997, as applicable.
