Description

Based on comments received concerning testing procedures for recovering erased audio from 1/4 inch analog magnetic recording tape the testing procedures will be modified to more accurately represent the original Nixon White House recordings. There will be two test tapes. Both test tapes will be recorded on an original White House Sony audio recorder then erased on an original White House UHER audio recorder as determined by the May 31, 1974 report to Judge Sirica by the Advisory Panel on White House Tapes. Test tape one will be on 1.0 mil 1/4-inch analog tape stock recorded at 7.5 IPS. This will be of best quality as possible. Test tape two will be an audio excerpt from the DAT Preservation copy of Tape 342 at the level of the original recording. This tape will be recorded at 15/16 IPS on original White House .5 mil 1/4-inch audiotape stock. All vendors that have submitted techical capability statements do not have to submit any additional information. Any vendors which have not submitted technical capability statements and wish to do so because of the changes outlined above may do so until 4:30 PM EST January 25, 2002
