Description
The USDA, Agricultural Research Service intends to procure a SECOND Flow Injection System to perform total inorganic N analysis, phosphorous, and for soluble C analysis of soil, plant, and water samples for N, P, and C balance studies for soil fertility research. The system shall be compatible with an EXISTING Lachat QuikChem 8000 Series Flow Injection Analyzer currently used in the research unit to allow interchange of parts, existing chemistry modules, chemicals and supplies, and consistency of data quality between instruments. The chemistry system shall be expandable to accommodate other chemical analyses (such as carbonates, chloride, conductivity, pH, total phosphate, sulfate) in the future by simple addition of a chemistry module. The system shall be capable of performing a minimum of two chemical analyses simultaneously with expansion capabilities up to six-simultaneous analyses in the future. The entire system shall be easily field upgradeable in the future to include a random access sampler(minimum capacity of 300 samples) that will work with an automatic diluter (to be added) to automatically dilute out-of-range samples and prepare working calibration standards. The system must be field upgradeable to include column- suppressed ion chromatography analyses on water and soil extract sample in the future. The system shall come complete with state-of-the-art software to control the instrument, record results, generate user friendly reports, and have results available to user in spreadsheet form accessible by QuattroPro or Excel database programs. The system shall come complete with an up-to-date data acquisition system. The Lachat QuikChem 8000 Series Flow Injection Analyzer meets these needs including their patented Shared Peripheral System (SPS), which meets the need to upgrade instrument to run ion chromatography independently and simultaneously with flow injection analysis. The is covered under Patent Number 5,492,831. Lachat Instrument's QuikChem methods are protected under U. S. Copyright laws and their Omnion Software packages are protected under U.S. software copyright laws. Only Lachat can provide compatible instrumentation that can be shared with their QuikChem System, including samplers, pumps, chemistry manifolds, and software.
