NA U.S. ARMY, PM ATCCS, PRODUCT MANAGER COMMON HARDWARE SYSTEMS (PdM CHS) IS INITIATING A MARKET SURVEY TO IDENTIFY COMMERCIAL, V1, RUGGEDIZED, V2, AND NEAR MIL-SPEC, V3, WORKSTATIONS, SERVERS AND LIGHTWEIGHT COMPUTERS SUCH AS TRANSPORTABLE COMPUTER UNIT (TCU ), PORTABLE COMPUTER UNIT (PCU), SUPER HIGH-CAPACITY COMPUTER (SHCU), HIGH- CAPACITY COMPUTER UNIT (HCU), NOTEBOOK COMPUTER UNIT (NCU), LIGHTWEIGHT COMPUTER UNIT (LCU), HANDHELD TERMINAL UNIT (HTU), PERSONAL DIGITAL ASSISTANT (PDA), COMMUNICATIONS DEVICE ( (TACTICAL COMMUNICATIONS INTERFACE MODULE (TCIM)), COMPUTER PERIPHERALS, ACCESSORIES, AND SOFTWARE AS PART OF THE NEXT GENERATION OF WORKSTATIONS, SERVERS, LIGHTWEIGHT COMPUTERS, AND COMMUNICATION DEVICE FOR THE ARMY BATTLE COMMAND SYSTEM (ABCS) INFORMATIO N TECHNOLOGY (AIT) PROGRAM. POC Mr. George M. Chan, 732-427-0507/732-427-3852 or Mr. Ray Schulze at 732-532-0526 This is a request for market survey data to locate and identify all sources of commercial and ruggedized Workstations, Servers, and Lightweight Portable Computers such as but not limited to, Transportable Computer Unit (TCU) V1 & V2 versions, Portable Comp uter Unit (PCU) V1 & V2 versions, Super High-Capacity Computer Unit (SHCU) V1 & V2 versions, High-Capacity Computer Unit (HCU) V1 & V2 versions, Lightweight Computer Unit (LCU) V1 & V2 versions, Handheld Terminal Unit (HTU) V3 version only, Notebook Comput er Unit (NCU) V1 & V2 versions, Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) V1 & V2 versions, and accessories. Software additions include operating system, and common applications software (eg. word processor, database, spreadsheet, business graphics, data communicat ions, M&D, malicious software detection, purge software, etc.). Hardware additions include Tactical Communications Interface Module (TCIM) (external, PCMCIA card), extended battery power source devices for lightweight computers, external CD-ROM drive, ext ernal 3 1/2? floppy Disk Drive, video displays (18? and 21? Color Flat Panel Displays (SXGA), Medium Screen Display (MSD) 22? to 46?, Large Screen Display (LSD) 47? & larger, tiled displays, sunlight readable displays), printers (color inkjet, B/W laser, c olor laser), large format printer, networking equipment (such as routers, switches, hubs, firewall devices), wireless devices and Network Interface Cards (NICs), firewalls, scanners (desktop, large format), projector systems, uninterruptable power supplies /power converters/power conditioners, storage devices (such as mass storage expansion unit, RAID, removable hard disk drive, archive tape drive, CD-R, CD-R/W, DVD-R, DVD R/W, flash memory card), tactical secure fax, special purpose boards (10/100/1000 Mbps LAN interface, graphics, SCSI interface, fire-wire interface, facsimile/modem, DDN/MPN X.25, voice entry/interactive, RS-232D interface), transit cases, installation kits/mounting kits, and all associated cables/connectors. The contractor will also be req uired to provide training, documentation, warranty, and support. If available, survey data should include retail pricing and performance specifications (eg. SPECint & SPECfp for workstations and servers). The following is MINIMUM requirements for each of workstations, servers, lightweight computers and communication device: i. Transportable Computer Unit (TCU) The TCU will serve as one of the primary hardware platform for main critical mission ABCS applications. The TCU (two-man lift ? less than 74 lbs) is a 64-bit, single 450 MHz (or greater) processor workstation class comp uter with a hard disk drive (V2 version only has a removable hard disk), native resolution of at least 1280 x 1024 pixels, and a Portable Operating System Interface for Computer Environments (POSIX)-compliant operating system. The TCU must have at least 2 MB cache, a capability of at least 2 GB of RAM, at least 36 GB internal storage, 3 ? High Density (HD) 1.44 MB Floppy Disk Drive, 24x CDROM or better, Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports, at least (4) Peripheral Component Int erconnect (PCI) internal expansion slots and 10/100 BaseT. ii. Portable Computer Unit (PCU) The PCU will serve as one of the primary hardware platform for main critical mission ABCS applications. The PCU (one-man lift ? less than 37 lbs) is a 64-bit, single 450 MHz (or greater) processor workstation class computer with a hard disk drive (V2 version only has a removable hard disk), integrated display with native resolution of at least 1280 x 1024 pixels, and a Portable Operating System Interface for Computer Environments (POSIX)-compliant operating system. The PCU m ust have at least 2 MB cache, a capability of at least 2 GB of RAM, at least 36 GB internal storage, 3 ? High Density (HD) 1.44 MB Floppy Disk Drive, 24x CDROM or better, Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports, at least (4) Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI ) internal expansion slots and 10/100 BaseT. iii. Super High-Capacity Computer Unit (SHCU) The SHCU is a 64-bit high-end server for limited application in the ABCS programs as a file/computer server. The SHCU will be characterized as a super high-capacity storage device and high processing performanc e computer, with at least (2 to 4) 450 MHz (or greater) processors with a hard disk drive (V2 version only has a removable hard disk), suitable for terrain imaging applications, native resolution of at least 1280 x 1024 pixels, and real-time control. The S HCU has a Portable Operating System Interface for Computer Environments (POSIX)-compliant operating system. The SHCU must have at least 4 MB cache per processor, a capability of at least 4 GB of RAM, super high-capacity internal storage capability, 3 ? Hig h Density (HD) 1.44 MB Floppy Disk Drive, 24x CDROM or better, Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports, at least (4) Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) internal expansion slots, and 10/100 BaseT. iv. High-Capacity Computer Unit (HCU) The HCU is a 64-bit mid-range server (two-man lift ? less than 74 lbs) for limited application in the ABCS programs as a file/computer server. The HCU will be characterized as a high-capacity storage device and high pr ocessing performance computer, with at least (1 to 2) 450 MHz (or greater) processors with a hard disk drive (V2 version only has a removable hard disk), suitable for terrain imaging applications, native resolution of at least 1280 x 1024 pixels, and real- time control. The HCU has a Portable Operating System Interface for Computer Environments (POSIX)-compliant operating system. The HCU must have at least 2 MB cache per processor, a capability of at least 2 GB of RAM, high-capacity internal storage capabili ty, 3 ? High Density (HD) 1.44 MB Floppy Disk Drive, 24x CDROM or better, Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports, at least (4) Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) internal expansion slots, and 10/100 BaseT. v. Notebook Computer Unit The NCU (commercial rugged) will serve as one of the lightweight (less than 10 lbs) primary hardware platform for ABCS light forces applications. The NCU is a 32-bit 850 MHz (or greater) notebook class computer (13? (or better) d isplay screen at eXtended Graphics Array (XGA) or better native resolution) with the capability of running Windows Operating System and Portable Operating System Interface for Computer Environments (POSIX)-compliant operating system. The NCU must have at l east 128 MB RAM, at least 20 GB internal storage, 3 ? High Density (HD) 1.44 MB Floppy Disk Drive, 24X CD-ROM (optional CD-RW or DVD-ROM Drives), Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports, serial port, parallel port, external video port (with minimum SXGA native re solution), type II/III PCMCIA capability, AC power, and DC battery power (minimum 2 hour life). If applicable, identify compatible mobile computing PC Cards (eg, wireless LAN, Global Positioning System (GPS), modems, smart cards, storage device, and etc. ), mobile computing software packages, and other hardware/software features as appropriate for a mobile environment. vi. Lightweight Computer Unit (LCU ) The LCU, a rugged single unit weighing less than 30 lbs., will serve as one of the primary hardware platform for ABCS light forces applications. The LCU is a 1 GHz (or greater) 32-bit portable class computer (13-15? display screen at eXtended Graphics Ar ray (XGA) or better native resolution) with hard disk drive (V2 version only has a removable hard disk) with the capability of running Windows Operating System and Portable Operating System Interface for Computer Environments (POSIX)-compliant operating sy stem. The LCU must have at least 2 GB of RAM, at least 30 GB internal storage, 3 ? High Density (HD) 1.44 MB Floppy Disk Drive, 24x CDROM or better (optional CD-RW or DVD-ROM Drives), Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports, serial port, parallel port, external v ideo port with minimum SXGA native resolution), type II/III PCMCIA capability, (2 or more) Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) internal expansion slots, dual 10/100 BaseT, AC power, and DC battery power (minimum 2 hour life). If applicable, identify co mpatible mobile computing PC Cards (eg, wireless LAN, Global Positioning System (GPS), modems, smart cards, storage device, and etc.), mobile computing software packages, and other hardware/software features as appropriate for a mobile environment. vii. Handheld Terminal Unit The HTU, a near-militarized single unit weighing less than 8 lbs, shall serve as a remote data entry terminal in a portable configuration with enough processing power to support limited mission planning for ABCS light forces app lications. The HTU is a 32-bit 500 MHz (or greater) handheld class computer (at least 6? display screen with native Video Graphics Adapter (VGA) or better resolution) with the capability of running Windows Operating System. The HTU must have at least 128 M B RAM, at least 10 GB internal storage, type II/III PCMCIA capability, RS-232 COM ports, QWERTY keyboard, software applications (eg, e-mail, word processor, spreadsheet, and database), G/VLLD interface, LAN interface, two (2) RS-232C COM ports, device conn ectivity (printer, modem, and external VGA display), BA5600 battery, AC power supply, DC to DC vehicular power adapter, and less than 10 pounds for the V3 rugged Handheld Terminal Unit (HTU). If applicable, identify compatible mobile computing PC Cards (e g, wireless LAN, GPS, modems, smart cards, storage device, and etc.), mobile computing software packages, extended battery power source device, and other hardware/software features as appropriate for a mobile environment. viii. Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) The PDA shall serve as a remote data entry terminal in a portable configuration with enough processing power to support limited mission planning for ABCS light forces applications. The PDA is a 200 MHz (or greater) ha ndheld class computer (color display of at least 240X320 pixel resolution) with the capability of running PDA versions of Windows (Pocket PC or Windows CE) or Palm operating systems. The PDA must have at least 32 MB of RAM, Stylus and/or Touch screen input s, and Universal Serial Bus (USB) and Infrared connectors. The PDA should have the option for docking station capability. Software applications (eg, e-mail, word processor, spreadsheet, and database), connects to printer, connects to modem, AC power and DC battery power, wireless capability, less than 3 pounds for the V1 commercial version and less than 5 pounds for the V2 rugged version. ix. Tactical Communications Interface Module (TCIM) - PCMCIA and External versions of the TCIM must interface with tactical communications systems. Both devices should be a two (2) channel programmable communications device that supports MIL-STD-188-220A/B protocols and Combat Radios (HF, VHF, SINCGARS, EPLRS, JTIDS), MSE, Analog circuit switches, TRI-TAC, 4 wire and 2 wire communication interfaces. The external TCIM is a separate and detachable device weighing no more than five pounds. The PCMCIA version i s a PCMCIA card. If a potential supplier feels that they have a device that they feel is truly a candidate, in spite of not meeting one or more of the criteria above, it is suggested that they submit it for the market survey consideration. Additional features included in and above the minimum baseline requ irements may enhance the desirability of the candidate. At this time, detailed technical data for the manufacture and acceptance for these servers, workstations, lightweight computers, computer peripherals, accessories, and software are not available from the Army. Potential supplier(s) capable of furnishing Workstations (TCU, PCU), Servers (SHCU, HCU), Lightweight Portable Computers/Devices (LCU, NCU, HTU, PDA), Tactical Communications Interface Module (TCIM), computer peripherals, and software must so ind icate, by writing to support this market survey in the form of non-propriety literature, advertisement, brochures, and documents to US Army, PM ATCCS, Product Manager Common Hardware Systems (PM CHS), Bldg. 2525, ATTN: SFAE-C3-AT-CHS (Mr. George M. Chan), Ft. Monmouth, NJ 07703-5603. The Government will not reimburse interested sources or responders to this notice for any costs incurred in responding, or for subsequent exchanges of information. Responses should be submitted no later than close of business 1 Mar 2002.
