Description
The National Cancer Institute (NCI), Radiation Oncology Branch(ROB), Center for Cancer Research plans to procure services from Varian Medical Systems, Dept. No. 70140, Chicago, Ill. 60673 for Maintenance Services for an existing older Varian Clinac 600C machine formerly purchased from Varian Medical Systems. The Radiation Oncology Branch, performs patient treatement of various kinds of cancer in the Clinical Center, Bethesda, Maryland. The treatment of patients are performed according to approved protocols for the various cancers that are treated with the existing Varian Clinac 600C. The Varian Clinac 600C is used to treat patients in the ROB clinic. It is detrimental to the health and treatement of cancer patients, if the procedures are interrupted due to equipment malfunction and lengthy down time, therefore, it is important that the machine is maintained and operating at all times. The parts needed to service this sensitive equipment must be identical and compatible to the existing machine to function properly and provide accurate radiation doses to cancer patients. Technically trained personnel are required to perform such repairs to this sensitive equipment. furthermore, Varian is the only known source available to perform such maintenance and upkeep since the software and some parts are proprietary to Varian. The period of performance will be for 1 year and shall include four(4) option years if exercised. Varian Medical System is the only known source tothe NCI researcher that can provide such services tothe aforementioned system. This notice is not a request for competitive quotation. However, if any interested party believes it can perform the above requirement, it may submit a statement of capabilities. The capability statement and any other furnished material must be in writing and must contain material in sufficient detail to allow NCI to determine if the party can perform this requirement. Capability statement must be received in the contracting office by 1:30 PM E.S.T (local Washington, DC time) on February 12, 2002. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed requirement based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. No collect calls will be accepted.
