- Description
- The National Cancer Institute(NCI), Laboratory of Biochemistry plans to enter into a sole source contract with Leica Microsystems Inc., 2345 Waukegan Road, Bannockburn, Ill 80016 to provide a Leica Ultracut UCT 54 Ultramicrotome with accessories. The Laboratory of Biochemistry performs specimen preparation for recording of data on the FEI Tecnai 12 electron microscope. Recent advances in electron microscopy have made molecular imaging on the atomic scale possible on specimens that are not easy to study with X-ray diffraction and NMR spectroscopy. High resolution problems in cancer and HIV/AIDS research, including cell-cell interactions, ligand-receptor binding, intracellular signaling and virus-mediated membrane fusion. The Leica Ultracut UCT 54 Ultramicrotome is required for the preparation of ultrathin and semi-thin sections for high resolution imaging in the electron microscopes. One unique feature of the UCT 54 is the serial connection to a computer enabling remote control of the microtome, which is a very important component of the Laboratory of Biochemistry research. The system will ensure a systematic quality control of performance and enable maintenance to be carried out in the most efficient manner. The Leica Ultracut UCT 54 will be equipped with: 1)AFS Capsule/microtube flatemb; 2) Leica EM CPC basic unit; 3) BG injector; 4) Access f.plunge freezing; 5) Propane disposal system; 6) Injection head and 7) MM80 injector system.
