The In Vivo Imaging System will become part of the imaging resources in the Mouse Imaging Facility which are available to the NIH Research Community. The required equipment shall have the following features: 1) an intergrated camera, cooling system, chamber and computer controls; 2) heated stage; 3) red sensitive detector with at least multi-color detection; 4) seven point position filter wheel; 5) refrigeration unit; 6) construction of materials that do not have long lived fluorescence and thus the system has inherently low background; 7) illumination controls for optimal reference images; 8) well designed image analysis software; and 9) digital lab book that records the camera settings and conditions that is easily searchable. Xenogen Corporation is the only low light imaging system known to the researcher that has the above unique features and is specifically designed for detecting low levels of light after transmission through mammalian tissues.
