- The Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) intends to issue a firm fixed price contract for the manufacture and delivery of 14 Semi-Autonomous Hydrographic Reconnaissance Vehicle (SAHRV) systems, and 4 spare SAHRV systems for FY 2002, and the associated support for these systems for FY 2003. The SAHRV is an un-manned underwater vehicle to be used by Naval Special Warfare (NSW) forces in the conduct of mine countermeasures (MCM) and hydrographic reconnaissance operations in the very shallow water (VSW) regime. The SAHRV will consist of a semi-autonomous (un-tethered) underwater vehicle and auxiliary equipment. The SAHRV was developed from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute (WHOI) oceanographic research vehicle known as the Remote Environmental Monitoring Units (REMUS). NAVSEA intends to negotiate this effort sole source to Hydroid Incorporated, 81 Technology Park Drive, East F almouth MA 02536. Hydroid Inc. was established with the cooperation of WHOI for the manufacture and ILS of the SAHRV. As such, Hydroid is the sole designer, developer and manufacturer of the SAHRV, and the only source capable of completing the requirement within the required timeframe to support the Navy?s needs. No other source has the technical qualification and necessary resources to either perform the work described herein, or will any other supplies or services satisfy the Navy?s requirements.
