- Description
- It is the intent of the National Library of Medicine (NLM) to procure Exhibit Educator services of Jiwon Kim, Silver Spring, to develop and conduct formal and informal audience research tools for exhibitions, web sites, and interactives with the goal of enhancing public access to and understanding and interpretation of the materials and concepts presented in exhibitions and supplemental projects. NLM needs a knowledgeable and experienced individual in the following areas: (1) at least two years experience with the NLM developing education and public programs for diverse audiences visiting history, science, and medicine exhibitions; (2) at least eight years experience developing education and public programs with science content; (3) at least four years experience developing training and presentation programs; (4) previous experience working on multiple projects simultaneously or large comprehensive projects is essential; (5) previous experience developing outreach programs for history-based exhibitions; and (6) minimum education requirement is a bachelor of arts. Must be fluent in all office software programs -- word processing, spreadsheets, database, email programs on both PC and Macintosh platforms. The period of performance begins March 12, 2002 and ends March 11, 2003 with four (4) option year periods. The Exhibition Educator develops, implements, and evaluates public outreach programs. The Exhibition Educator develops liaisons with peer professionals at other museums and education institutions. The Exhibition Educator will take the lead role during all planning and development meetings to advocate for the exhibition visitor. The Educator cultivates and identifies specific audiences - National Student Leadership Conference participants, National Institutes of Health Communication Offices, internship programs, etc. for demonstrations, tours, special events, and other outreach efforts. The Educator builds various public programs with support from the exhibition team including scheduling and coordinating film series, theatrical productions, and other events. The Educator will organize exchange programs including special tours, open houses, curator talks, etc. The Educator will also represent the NLM's Exhibition Program to other education programs at the National Institutes of Health. The Educator will initiate collaborative efforts and further expand the Library audiences through on-campus resources. The Educator will test audience responses to ideas, images, concepts, text, titles, interactives, etc. The Educator will monitor compliance with accessibility requirements. The Educator will expand the reach of the NLM's Exhibition Program into the teacher/education community both in the Washington DC/Metro area and online. Ms. Jiwon Kim is uniquely qualified to expand the education component of the National Library of Medicine's Exhibition Program. She has already established a foundation consisting of community schools, National Institutes of Health education and communication offices, and a proven track record of overseeing successful public programs. She combines the experience of developing programs for the education division of a science association, and the outreach and training skills of a custom software educator. She possesses the dynamic leadership skills with the ability to understand and respond to end users' needs. She has developed programs, provided professional and mentoring services and programs for undergraduates and faculty advisors at higher education institutions. She has served as managing editor of a science publication. Ms. Kim has developed workshops, participated in symposia, and worked on multiple projects simultaneously. In addition, Ms. Kim brings strong technological skills to the Exhibition Program and fluency in three languages - English, Korean, and Spanish. These additional skills will enable the NLM's Exhibition Program to directly reach a much broader audience. The proposed acquisition will be procured under FAR Part 12 - Acquisition of Commercial Items. This is not a Request for Quotation (RFQ), nor is an RFQ available, however, all responsive sources may submit a proposal in a timely manner which will be considered by NLM.
