Description
NAICS Code: 9241 27 - 28 FEB 2002. The Air Pollution Control Technology Verification Center (APCTVC) is now forming tow new Technical Panels (TPs) related to mobile diesel engines. The two TPs - (1) fuels, fuel additives, and alternative fuels; and (2) Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) control devices - will provide guidance and direction to the APCTVC in developing generic verification protocols for verifying the performance of these types of controls in reducing emissions from mobile diesel engines. You are invited to serve on either or both TPs as best serves your organization's needs. These new TPs will meet on Wednesday, February 27 and Thursday, February 28, 2002 at the Crystal Gateway Marriott (http://Marriotthotels.com/WASGW/default.asp), 1700 Jefferson Davis Hwy, Arlington VA 22202. Draft documents will be available, via links to .pdf files on the ETV website, at least a week prior to the meetings. The agenda for February 27 is fuels, fuel additives, and alternative fuels; the TP will meet from 8:30am to 12:00noon, break for lunch, then reconvene from 1:00 to 4:00pm. The agenda for February 28 is SCR; the TP will convene from 8:30am to 12:00noon. The hotel is within walking distance of the Crystal City Metro station (Blue/Yellow Lines). Attendees arriving by train into Union Station should take the Red Line to Gallery Place/Chinatown and transfer to the Yellow Line to Huntington. Complimentary shuttle service to/from Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) is also available. Guests should call the hotel upon arrival at the airport to initiate hotel shuttle service from the airport to the hotel. Guests must make their own room reservations by calling Crystal Gateway Marriott (telephone 703 920 3230); be sure to state "ETV meeting hosted by RTI". Rooms are available but a block has not been reserved. The goal of these two TPs will be the same as that of the DEC/PM Filters/Engine Mods Technical Panel on which many on you served over the past year; namely, to provide assistance in drafting protocols for fuels and SCR technologies. Oversight of the VRP for both technologies now resides with EPA/OTAQ Washington, with Carl Wick leading for fuels and Cliff Dean leading for SCR. The plan is to build on the recently completed draft of the DEC/PM Filters/Engine Mods protocol, making only those modifications necessary to properly verify fuels and SCR technologies. Thus, we do not anticipate as extended a process and are targeting completion by July 1, 2002. A day and a half has been allocated because it is the first meeting and we feel that much time might be required. Follow-up meetings will be scheduled on the same day for the convenience of those who are involved with both - one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Given that most of the protocol has already been written, this should be enough time. The draft of the DEC, particulate traps, and engine control devices protocol remains on the Web for downloading at: http://etv.rti.org/apct/tech/mobile/GVP_MS_Rev07_Devices.pdf. Please advise Jenni Elion at (919) 541-6253 (jme@rti.org) regarding: (1) your interest in attending one or both sessions (we need a count); (2) whether you would like to remain on the distribution list for either or both technology areas; (3) any questions or comments regarding schedule or content; (4) contact information updates if changes have occurred in the past six months or so. Point of Contact is Jenni M. Elion, Research Environmental Engineer, CET/412 Building 11, RTI, P.O. Box 12194 (3040 Cornwallis Rd), Research Triangle Park NC 27709-2194, T: (919) 541-6253; F: (919) 541-6936. Please visit the website at http://scp.rti.org/.
