Description
The U.S. Dept of Agriculture, Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) intends to award a contract to Harvard Center for Risk Analysis (HCRA), 718 Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02115, to provide training and technical assistance in the use of the model for Bovine Spongiform Encepalopathy (BSE). The training will consist of both formal workshops and telephone support. The HCRA will also provide assistance in the analysis of four specifics scenarios. The HCRA will work with personnel identified by USDA to develop models of the specific scenarios. Some scenarios may include, but are not limited to: prohibiting the use of bovine intestine for human food, prohibiting the use of vertebral column as a source material in meat or meat food product recovery systems that use pressure to separate beef meat or beef meat food product from bone for cattle older than 24 months. The HCRA will provide the BSE model and documentation to FSIS for distribution to the trainees. FSIS will also coordinate the telephone support to be provided by HCRA. THERE IS NO SOLICITATION DOCUMENT AVAILABLE. The Harvard Center for Risk Analysis is the only known source that can provide this type of service. All interested concerns must identify their interest in writing and fully document their capability to meet the agency?s requirements by forwarding a detailed response by March 11, 2002. All responses must be in writing and may be faxed to (301) 504-4276. All proposals from responsible sources will be considered by the Agency. If no affirmative written response is received by March 11th to determine that another source is available, negotiations will take place with The Harvard Center for Risk Analysis.
