Description
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention intends to negotiate a sole source procurement with Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX, to determine the viral status of hepatitis A (HAV), hepatitis B (HBV),hepatitis C (HCV),and human parvovirus HPV)B19 and other new emerging viral agents as they are identified. Patients are exposed to blood products extensively in the course of their treatment and these viral studies will provide a mechanism for monitoring the safety of blood and blood products. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has received the Congressional mandate to reduce or prevent the complications of hemophilia. Infection with these viruses continues to be a common and severe complication of this disease. Monitoring of these viral markers will help identify viral exposure in a timely manner and expedite epidemiological and investigations of the source of these seroconversions. This procurement is authorized by FAR 6.302-1. The period of performance consists of a 12-month period from the contract award date, the contract contains four twelve(12) month option provisions that may be exercised to continue the contractor performance and additional forty-eight (48) months, for a total of sixty (60) months. There is no other known source for these services. See Numbered Note 22.
