THIS IS NOT A SOLICITATION ANNOUNCMENT. THIS IS A SOURCES SOUGHT SYNOPSIS ONLY. THE PURPOSE OF THIS SOURCES SOUGHT SYNOPSIS IS TO GAIN KNOWLEDGE OF POTENTIAL QUALIFED SOURCES AND THEIR SIZE CLASSIFICATIONS (HUBZONE 8(a), 8(a), HUBZONE, SMALL, SMALL DISADVANTAGE AND LARGE BUSINESS) RELATIVE TO NACIS CODE 562119 (SIZE STANDARD OF $10.5 MILLION). RESPONSES TO THIS SOURCES SOUGHT SYNOPSIS WILL BE USED BY THE GOVERNMENT TO MAKE APPROPRITE ACQUISITION DECISIONS-SEE SUBMITTAL REQUIREMENTS BELOW. AFTER REVIEW OF THE RESPONSES TO THIS SOURCES SOUGHT ANNOUNCMENT, A SOLICITATION ANNOUNCEMENT WILL BE PUBLISHED IN THE CBD. RESPONSES TO THIS SOURCES SOUGHT ANNOUNCEMENT ARE NOT ADEQUATE RESPONSE TO THE SOLICITATION ANNOUNCEMENT. ALL INTERESTED OFFERORS WILL HAVE TO RESPONDE TO THE SOLICITATION ANNOUNCEMENT IN ADDITION TO RESPONDING TO THIS SOURCES SOUGHT ANNOUNCMENT. The VA Boston Healthcare System is seeking sources for a potential contract to lease puncture resistant sharps containers that are recyclable and are of varying size. The contents will be collected by the company at the point of use at the VA Boston Healthcare System, West Roxbury and Brockton campuses and outpatient clinics located in Lowell, Worcester and Boston, MA. The sharps containers will be removed and replaced with disinfected recycled clean containers installed at least once a week; but flexible enough to increase/decrease collection as need determines. The company will destroy and dispose of sharps in accordance with accepted practice and law. All containers will be disinfected before their next use. Sharps Waste shall include hypodermic needles, syringes and scalpel blades. The term does not include any hazardous waste, radioactive waste, chtotoxic drugs or antineoplastic agents, bulk blood including blood vials. The Medical Center will be responsible for the segregating of all waste in accordance with Federal, State and Local requirements. The Contractor will be required to provide proof of all applicable permits and insurance certificates required under the State of Massachusetts. Responses to this notice should include company name, address, point of contact, Cage Code, size of business pursuant to North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS) and must respond to the following questions: (1) Is your business a large or small business? (2) if small, does your firm qualify as a small, emergency business, or a small, disadvantaged business? (3) If disadvantaged, specify under which disadvantaged group and is your firm certified under Section 8(a) of the Small Business Act? (4) Is your firm a certified ?hub zone? firm? (5) Is your firm a woman-owned or operated business? (6) Is your firm certified Service-Disabled Veteran Owned and Veteran-Owned? This is not a request for proposals and in no way obligates the Government to award any contract. Responses to this notice shall be mailed or faxed to the attention of Darlene Rideout, VA Boston Healthcare System, Acquisition and Materiel Management Service (90C), 150 S. Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02130-4893. Fax number is (617) 264-6521. Telephone responses will not be accepted. Responses must be received in writing no later than 2:00 PM on 19 March 2002. Firms responding to this announcement that fail to provide all of the required information cannot be used to help the Government make the acquisition decision that is the intent of this synopsis. This notice is to help VA Boston Healthcare System in determining potential sources only. No solicitation is currently available. All firms responding to this sources sought notice are advised that their responses to this notice are not a request to be considered for a contract award. If a solicitation is used, it will be announced later in the FedBizOpps and all interested parties must respond to that solicitation announcement separately from the responses to this announcement. Responses to this sources sought synopsis are NOT a request to be added to a prospective bidders list or to receive a copy of the solicitation.
