- Description
- The Food and Drug Administration, FDA, Center for Food Safety and Nutrition, CFSAN, has a requirement for support services for the Pathology Laboratory at College Park, Maryland for expertise in setting up and establishing the new laboratory and Standard Operating Procedures. Participate in the gross necropsy of experimental animals at MOD-1 and shall be responsible for those duties assigned by the pathology project officer both prior to and during the necropsies. Duties may include, but are not limited to, mixing fixatives, preparing bottles for tissue fixation, euthanizing experimental animals, weighing organs, entering data into the computerized data system (Pathdata), recording gross observations and disposing of animal carcasses. Work with other pathology staff to assure that are cross-trained to provide the functions listed above. Assure that all relevant safety procedures in effect at the CFSAN are utilized in carrying out gross necropsy duties. Perform ensyme histochemical staining on tissues from selected studies. Assure quality control for tissue processing, embedding, and staining. Archiving pathology specimens. This requirement is being awarded on a sole-source basis to Celester Carter, Temple Hills, MD due to the fact that he possesses a scientific and management background as well as 40 years administrative and scientific experience in the area of histopathology. Mr. Carter?s scientific background as well as his keeping abreast of changes in the fields of histopathology, enzyme histochemistry and electron microscopy coupled with his ability to train and obtain certification for an individual seeking certification as a histotechnologist renders him a unique individual insofar as fulfilling the urgent need of the CFSAN/FDA. His historical experience to include the intimate knowledge of the internal operations of the Histopathology Laboratory, the Archive facility along with Good Laboratory Practices and Standared Operating Procedures makes him uniquely qualified to carry out the tasks requirements listed above. Therefor, this requirement will be made on a sole-source basis. This annoucement is for informational purposes only.
