The US Army, Office of the Project Manager for Tank and Medium-caliber Armament Systems (OPM TMAS) plans to host a medium caliber ammunition demonstration at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD. The anticipated timeframe of the demonstration will be October-November 2002. A 30/40mm MK44 Bushmaster Automatic Cannon integrated into a Bradley fighting vehicle will be used for the demonstration. Demonstrations of 30mm and Super 40mm ammunition will be fired from this system. Audience at some of the firings will be restricted based on clearances and need to know. Equipment, material, ammunition, test facilities and test personnel will be provided by United Defense LP, Boeing Ordnance, The US Army OPM-TMAS, the US Marine Corps Project Manager AAAV, The US Army Office of the Project Manager Bradley Fighting Vehicle (OPM-Bradley), The US Army Armament Research Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC), and the US Army Aberdeen Test Center (ATC). Boeing Ordnance is providing the MK44 Cannon. UDLP is providing the Bradley and cannon integration services. OPM-TMAS, OPM-Bradley and PM-AAAV are funding the test site and test personnel. PM-AAAV and ARDEC are providing the ammunition. ATC will provide the test sites, test personnel and will help coordinate the delivery of ammunition and weapons to Aberdeen Proving Grounds. Concurrent with the MK44 demonstration test facilities and test personnel will be made available for demonstrations of 30mm Air Bursting ammunition and fuze setting systems. For this second demonstration the 30mm Air Burst munitions do not need to be compatible with the MK44 weapon. The goal is to demonstrate the capabilities of air bursting munitions. Contractors participating in the air bursting demonstration will be required to provide the gun, feeder mechanism, automatic fuze setter, remote firing device(s), ammunition and on site technical support. The weapon must be free standing or compatible with existing Aberdeen Test Center (ATC) fixed mounts. It is expected that the contractor(s) selected to participate in the demonstration will provide the above at no cost to the Government since the purpose of the demonstration is for the Government to review new capabilities.
