Description
DESC: The National Cancer Institute, Division of Cancer Prevention, (DCP) Chemoprevention Agent Development Research Group (CADRG) is interested in evaluating inhibitors or potential inhibitors of any stage of carcinogenesis, in order to identify potential chemopreventive agents. Such agents are to be further evaluated in appropriate toxicological and/or clinical settings. The CADRG has established a clearly defined integrated plan for the evaluation of chemopreventive agents. This plan delineates detailed criteria for classifying the quantity and quality of information that currently exists on any chemopreventive agent and thus defines what additional information and investigations are required to qualify the agent's experimental use in intervention trials of human cancer. The primary purpose of this RFP is to further evaluate chemopreventive agents for which there exists at least one published report regarding their effectiveness in inhibiting carcinogenesis. The object of these studies is to establish the general efficacy of the chemopreventive agent in animal model systems representing selected target organs, different species, and different carcinogens. This RFP involves multiple Workstatements (Nos. 92-97). Certain study design characteristics apply to the specific Workstatements under this RFP. Most of the requirements for the Workstatement study design will be detailed in the specific workstatement. Each workstatement will have a specific period of performance. The workstatements are: WS #92: Efficacy Testing in the Strain A Mouse Lung Tumor Model with Selected Chemopreventive Agents and Combinations Administered by Liquid Aerosols; WS #93: Efficacy Testing in the Strain A Mouse Lung Tumor Model with Oltipraz and Other Selected Dithiolthiones Administered by Aerosolized Particulates; WS #94: Chemopreventive Agent Efficacy Using Chemically Induced Prostate Carcinogenesis in Rats; WS #96: Efficacy of Chemopreventive Agents In The N-Butyl-N-(4-hydroxybutyl)-Nitrosamine [OH BBN] Model Of Bladder Carcinogenesis; WS #94: Efficacy Of Potential Chemopreventives Agents Alone or In Combination In The Azoxymethane (AOM)- Induced Colon Cancer Model In Fisher Rats; WS #97: Chemoprevention Screening Employing A Transgenic Mouse Model Which Yields Prostate Tumors In Male Mice And Breast Tumors In Female Mice. It is anticipated that this RFP will be available on or before April 8, 2002 and will be sent directly to all the current MA Holders with a due date of May 29, 2002. Those interested in obtaining a copy of this RFP should send their e-mail address to Jacqueline Ballard at ballardj@mail.nih.gov and a copy of the RFP will be forwarded. In order to be considered for award, all offerors shall be Holders of an Efficacy Studies of Chemopreventive Agents in Animal Models Master Agreement and members of this pool as of the release date of this RFP. For those who are not currently in the Master Agreement Pool who wish to be considered for inclusion should consult the Research Contracts Branch website at http://rcb.nci.nih.gov. Click on the "Current Requests for Proposals" link and locate RFP/N01-CN-85051-72.
