- Description
- NASA/GSFC plans to issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for one each Velocity Laser System p/n 6328-P. This system shall have a high wavelength stability/repeatability (<0.1 nm); fast modulation option (fine-frequency modulation bandwidth 2 KHz and current modulation bandwidth 100 MHz); broad tuning range of 1510-1580 nm. This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). NASA/GSFC intends to purchase the items from New Focus, Inc. 5215 Hellyer Avenue, San Jose, CA. This Velocity Laser System is for use in the CO2 sounder to provide a seed laser for an Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier. The high wavelength stability/repeatability is essential in maintaining the fidelity of the CO2 sounder measurements. The fast modulation option will simplify the system and improve the ability to generate pulsed engery from the CW laser. The wavelength tunability has a borad tuning range which is essential to spectroscopy experiments. No other Laser System is available that can pump Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier and meet the required specifications. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform the effort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 4:30 p.m. local time on April 9, 2003. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the government. Oral communications are not acceptable in response to this notice. All responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be considered by the agency. An Ombudsman has been appointed.
