- Description
- Te Bureau of the Census in Jeffersonville, Indiana is requesting information for a possible acquisition of laser sorting macines for use in the 2010 Census. We are researching the capability to sort interleaved 2 of 5 barcode mailing packages on laser sorters. The sorters will need the capability to either check the barcode on the form against a file that is loaded on the sorter or against a network file and make a decision of (1) Will the mailing package remain in the mailing or (2) be osted out to be discarded. A mailing package is defined as (1) Letter size with a height of 4.6 inches to 6 inches by 6.5 inches up to 12.5 inches. Thickness of .1 inches to .3 inches and (2) Flat size with a height of 6 to 9 inches by 10.5 inches to 12.5 inches. Thickness of .1 inch to .3 inch. The length of the interleved 2 of 5 bar code should be operator configurable. The bar code head should be mechanically adjustable to allow for different bar code placements on the envelopes. The reader should be able to read on a window or through glassine. Bar code orientation should be horizontal or picket fence. Minimum bar thickness 0.017 inches <=X<=0.022 inches. Maximum digits is 22. Bar code eight is 1/2 inch. Wide to narrow ration (N): 2.2<=N<=3.0 (must be at least 2.5 if the narrow width is less than 0.020 inches. Be able to check digit: none, MAD97, MOD 10, 1278. We project needing to sort 100 million mailing packages in a period of 10 days. We are requesting the following information: 1. The speed at which the machine will run? 2. How much floor space a machine will occupy? 3. The number of staff required to operate the machines? 4. The approximate price of a machine? 5. If the sorting machine could also be used to check in refular mail? 6. What operating system runs the sorter and what software would be used? 7. What would the availability or lead time for the proposed sorting machine be? Interested parties hould submit their questions/response to Gordon Randall via fax (812-218-3937) or email: gordon.randall@census.gov
