- Description
- The Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO), operating under a grant from the Department of Energy, seeks a contractor for the detailed design of the 10m VERITAS Optics Support Structure (OSS). The OSS is composed of a space frame (supporting the mirrors), the Focal Plane Instrument (FPI) support or "quadrapod" arms, counterweights if the design so requires, dummy focus box, and cable handling/attachment fixtures. The Contractor may also be required to provide post-design services during fabrication, installation, and testing of the OSS and positioner at a site 40 miles south of Tuscon, AZ. Other contractors will provide the fabrication of the OSS, mirrors, and mirror mounts. A firm-fixed price contract for this detailed design is contemplated. Offers will be evaluated on price, technical proposal, past performance, and ability to meet the schedule. The anticipated release date of the RFP is on or about 15 Apr 2002 with an anticipated proposal due date on or about 15 May 2002. The RFP and associated documents will be posted on FEDBIZOPPS. The anticipated award date is on or about 15 July 2002. The anticipated delivery date for the detailed design will be six months after award of the contract. The firm date for receipt of proposals will be stated in the RFP. Only written, fax, or email requests for a solicitation received directly from the requester are acceptable. No telephone requests for the solicitation will be accepted. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) Code and size standard are 541330 and $4M, respectively. All qualified responsible sources may submit an offer, which shall be considered by the agency. This acquisition is being conducted under methods similar to FAR Part 12.6, Streamlined Procedures for Evaluation and Solicitation for Commercial Items.
