Description
The US Army TACOM-ARDEC is conducting a market survey seeking sources for the purchase of two (2) lathes each that will be integrated with a single PC- based controller. 1) They will consist of several components (Human-Machine Interface, Parser, Programmable Logic Controller - PLC, Interpolator, Path Planner and Event Generator) that must be comprised of software tasks which execute on a single microprocessor. 2) The contractor will purchase two identical lathes that will each have the capability of machining titanium with an accuracy and repeatability of plus/minus 0.0001 inch. 3) The lathes will have the ability to cut parts that are at least eight (8) inches in diameter, twenty-five (25) inches in length with a twelve (12) inch bore. 4) The contractor will supply a controller integrated into the lathe hardware with software that must be unbundled, open-architecture in design that uses no proprietary hardware or motion control cards, and it must also be production proven. 5) The system must run on off-the-shelf PCs and Microsoft Windows operating systems, and the PLC engine must execute entirely in software and support all IEC-61131-3 languages and a flowcharting language. 6) The contractor must also supply a toolkit that allows the end user to develop a device driver for an input/output card or fieldbus which runs in the operating system?s real-time extensions. 7) The controller must also be built on a user- accessible, single, real-time data repository that stores all real-time and non- real-time variables used in the control. 8) The contractor will also provide a controller that has standardized Application Programming Interface (API), and will allow for rapid addition of new capabilities and customize the controller for specific applications. .
