- Description
- NASA/GRC plans to issue a Request for Offer (RFO) for the fabrication of two carbon composite pressure vessels. These are to be fabricated to a set of prints provided in the solicitation. The tanks are to be fabricated with RS-3/K800 thermally conductive carbon composite. Both tanks will have aluminum liners. The operating pressure in each tank will vary between 15 to 400 psia. Each tank must withstand a test pressure of 600 psia with leakage of less than .00005 cubic inches per minute. Each tank must be individually crated for shipment to the Glenn research Center. The first tank has an outside diameter of 12 inches and a cylindrical length of 22.75 inches. The enclosed volume is approximately 3167 cubic inches. Two coils of tubing are wrapped around the cylindrical portion of the tank. One coil is a heat pipe and the other coil is a dryer pipe. These will be supplied by NASA Glenn Research Center. Both coils are to be bonded to the outside of the tank as specified in the provided drawings. The second tank has an outside diameter of approximately 17 inches and a cylindrical length of 20 inches. The enclosed volume is approximately 6925 cubic inches. Two coils of tubing are wrapped around the cylindrical portion of the tank. One coil is a heat pipe and the other coil is a dryer pipe. These are to be supplied by NASA Glenn Research Center. Both coils are to be bonded to the outside of the tank as specified in the drawings. The Government does not intend to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. See Note 26. The NAICS Code and Size Standard are 339111 and 500 employees, respectively. The DPAS Rating for this procurement is DO-C9. The provisions and clauses in the RFO and model contract are those in effect through FAC 01-05. All qualified responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be considered by the agency. The anticipated release date of the RFO is on or about April 20, 2002 with an anticipated offer due date of on or about May 20, 2002. An ombudsman has been appointed -- See NASA Specific Note "B".
