Description
LAWRENCE LIVERMORE NATIONAL LABORATORY LICENSEE TO PRODUCE A MINIATURE MASS SPECTROMETER Announcement: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), operated by the University of California under contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), wants to license the technology to build a Miniature Mass Spectrometer. Researchers at LLNL built a working Miniature Ion Cyclotron Resonance Mass Spectrometer, which is small enough to fit into a briefcase, along with the portable computer used to control the operation of the unit. The unit weighs just 33 pounds. It operates off a battery and it draws less than 0.5 watts. The unit has a tested sensitivity of 1 in 1,000. The design of this unit resulted in four patents. The four patents cover the following areas: Mini Ion Mass Spectrometer, Electron Source for a Mini Ion Trap Mass Spectrometer, Miniature Thermo-Electric Cooled Cryogenic Pump, and Miniature Piezo Electric Vacuum Inlet Valve. LLNL would like to license this technology to a qualified company for commercialization. Note: THIS IS NOT A PROCUREMENT. Companies interested in commercializing LLNL's Miniature Mass Spectrometer should provide a written statement of interest, which includes the following: 1. Company Name and address. 2. The name, address, and telephone number of a point of contact. 3. A description of corporate expertise and facilities relevant to commercializing this technology. Written responses should be directed to: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Industrial Partnerships and Commercialization P.O. Box 808, L-795 Livermore, CA 94551-0808 Attention: FBO02-007-295 Please provide your written statement within thirty (30) days from the date this announcement is published to ensure consideration of your interest in LLNL's Miniature Mass Spectrometer.
