Description

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM), has a requirement to contract with an individual/company for a literature search and review to assess the following: the potential contribution of the use of antimicrobial products in food animals to bacterial resistance to penicillins and tetracyclines; if there is any evidence suggesting that populations of resistant bacteria are maintained in or on the animal or in the environment (chicken house, barnyard, feed lot, etc.) after antibiotic use is discontinued, what evidence exists for transmission of resistant bacteria, and whether there is evidence of a relationship between the use of antibiotics in animals (pen and tet) and the increase in antibacterial resistance to the antibiotic (pen and tet) in animal and human isolates. Specific questions will be address in a written report from information obtained from the literature search. This is a sources sought requirement. Any interested parties should send a letter of request for a copy of the "Scope of Work".
