Description
Schlieren Windows for 8X6 SWT Optical Windows - Item 1 Item 1. Schlieren window of borosilicate crown glass in accordance with the following specifications. Glass Specifications The finished Schlieren window is to be free from bubbles and seeds, surface defects and striae as described in paragraphs 3.4, 3.5 and 3.6 respectively of Military Specifications MIL-G-16592 (Bur. Ord.) dated October 16, 1951 for Glass, Plate (for optical instruments) where applicable. Window Finish Specifications Both faces of each window shall be optically polished flat to one wavelength. Surface figure shall be smooth with local area curvature not exceeding 1/4 wavelength over any six-inch diameter. Also, both faces shall be ground and pitch polished so that the surface shall be zone free with no mottled or orange peel effect visible, and the uniformity of the system cutoff shall not be degraded when viewed in a Schlieren system whose sensitivity equals approximately six seconds of angular deviation of light parallel to its optical axis. The wedge angle of the finished window shall not exceed one minute and the variation in wedge angle across the window shall not exceed 12 seconds. Scratch and dig specification 80-40. Acceptance Test Acceptance test of finished window to be performed at NASA Glenn. The unmounted window shall be placed in the parallel beam of 26.5-inch aperture 285-inch focal length Schlieren system. The window shall not degrade the uniform cutoff exhibited by the system any greater than the above stated specifications.
