This is not a notice for a solicitation. This is a Request for Information (RFI). Neither a draft statement of work nor specifications are available. The information received will be used as part of a market survey. The US Geological Survey, National Mapping Discipline has a requirement for large format color scanning systems. Expected quantities are a minimum of one with options for a maximum of three scanning systems. The responses shall be for existing commercially available scanning systems. Each response shall contain information with detail technical specifications indicating that our requirements can be met; approximate pricing, and any available contracting vehicle for acquisition (i.e. SEWP III, GSA contract). PLEASE NOTE: We realize that all the below stated requirements may not be commercially available. If your product meets a majority of our requirements or has insignificant shortcomings indicate in your response the specific areas in which your product may be deficient. Requirements: *Active scan area a minimum of 42? X 62?. *Shall scan paper maps, film positives, film negative, original map materials, and various types of coated Mylar. *Minimum 1200 dots per inch (DPI) true optical resolution (non-interpolated). *Continuously variable resolution from 250 to 1200 DPI (true optical resolution) under operator control with a modulation transfer function of at least 40%. *Positional error shall not exceed .005 inches over entire scan area. *Orthogonal error of a line extending the full scan width shall not exceed .008 inches. *If drum scanner technology, RPM shall not exceed 20. *Shall provide clean black & white images from film negatives, scribecoats and peelcoats with the presence of stickers, ink, opaqueing fluid, etc. Generally, we believe this will require a transmissive mode scanner. The scanner must produce clean images without post processing. *Fit through 36? X 78? doorway, either whole or part to be assembled *Meet the following scan times and set up times for given material and true optical resolution material size (inches) scan res (dpi) max setup time(min) max scan time(min) film positive 24x30 1000 5 10 film positive 24x30 1200 5 14 film negative 24x30 1000 5 10 film negative 24x30 1200 5 14 mylar scribeguide 24x30 >=1200 5 14 mylar peelcoat 24x30 1200 5 14 paper map 24x30 500 7 5 paper map 24x30 1000 7 10 paper map 42x62 1000 15 40 *Output untiled TIFFs 6.0. *Color scans formatted 8-bit palette color, or RGB, under operator control. * Black and white as bilevel images both black-is-min and white-is-min and grayscale under operator control. *Designed for an approximate scan quantity of 12,000/year. *Long life scan bulb, operator replaceable. *Under operator control output PackBits compression per TIFF 6.0 standard. *Shall be capable of scanning mylar with a thickness between .003 and .007 inches *Host computer shall be capable of storing a minimum 10 images at full scan size and resolution. *Host computer shall be configured and sized to accomplish workload timeframes above and to provide capacity to for post processing of image (i.e., change format, apply compression, reduce number of colors). *Host computer shall have a minimum of 2 memory slots available for future expansion. *Host computer shall contain a DVD writeable drive. *Host computer shall have a minimum 21-inch with a dot pitch not to exceed .28 mm, the display shall be capable of a resolution 1280x1024 at a minimum vertical refresh rate of 70Hz. *Host computer shall have industry standard Operating Sytem ( Unix, Linux, Windows) *100 megabit/second twisted pair 100Base-T Ethernet connectivity *Training for users, system operations, and system management EVALUATED OPTIONS *Capability to perform pre-scan color calibration. *Capability to output JPEG, PNG and PostScipt formats without post processing. *Capability to scan materials significantly thicker than .007 inches. *Capability to scan sheets larger than 42? X 62?. *Image processing software. *Capability to identify and remove lithographic screen dots from source material. *Ability to learn and automatically identify standard map symbols and text. There is no bid package or solicitation document associated with this announcement. The requested information is for planning purposes and does not constitute a commitment, implied or otherwise, that a procurement action will be issued.
