Description
The Division of Acquisition Management has a requirement for the Office of Women?s Health/Office of Public Health and Science to identify the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of providers regarding dietary supplements and/or herbal medicines (DS/HM) for menopause in order to develop an educational intervention for health care providers working in the community that will facilitate the integration of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) with conventional medical practice. The Contractor shall conduct a study to identify the knowledge, attitudes, referral patterns, and behaviors of providers regarding use of dietary supplements and/or herbal medicine in mid-life and older women, specifically to: 1) assess provider knowledge about DS/HM use, 2) determine provider attitudes about the use of DS/HM, 3) understand provider referral for DS/HM, and 4) assess provider knowledge of the extent of patient disclosure about use of DS/HM in menopause. The Contractor shall develop and implement an educational program for community health care providers to: enhance provider knowledge about use of DS/HM in menopause, to: bridge the gap between patients and providers in the integration of CAM and conventional medical care, specifically to: increase communication between patients and providers regarding use of DS/HM, including disclosure by the patient and documentation in the medical record. The Contractor shall develop a resource manual for practicing physicians regarding DS/HM in menopause. This effort will take the collaboration of one (1) National Centers of Excellence in Women?s Health Centers (CoE) and one (1) National Community Center of Excellence in Women?s Health Center (CCoE). They are University of Illinois at Chicago and Women?s Health Services, Santa Fe, NM. The Government intends to make two (2) one-year awards utilizing, FAR Part 13, Simplified Acquisition Procedures. This proposed contract action is for supplies or services for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only the two (2) sources above, under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b). Interested persons may identify, in writing, their interest and capability to respond to the requirement or submit proposals. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals. However, all proposals received within 15 days after date of publication of this synopsis will be considered by the Government. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
