Description
The Federal Highway Administration plans to negotiate a Purchase Order with Texas A&M University for the Co-Sponsorship to conduct a bridge scour testing in order to develop basic engineering soil properties. The University will prepare a prediction package in an electronic form, which can be sent rapidly to international participants. The package will include all of the needed details in order to make the predictions related to the testing. The package will include soil layering, soil properties, velocity hydrograph, water depth, and diameter of the pier as well as two field sites from the flume test. The Texas A& M University will also distribute the testing results upon completion of the conference to participants as well as provide a report to the FHWA. Texas A&M University will be sponsoring the overall conference as well as is the focal point for the conference participants in the prediction event that will be held. Texas A&M will be partnering with the FHWA which will be funding more than half of the conference. Because Texas A&M University has the knowledge, expertise, and history with conducting the soil testing for the FHWA they are the only known source for the that can provide the required services. This is a Simplified Acquisition and the anticipated award date is on or about May 9, 2002.
