Description

The USDA Agricultural Research Service in Albany, Ca. has a requirement for a software package for analysis of 2D gel electrophoresis images. It is designed for the high throughput analysis of 2D gel image. It automates the traditional time intensive processes of spot identification and editing, matches a series of gel images, and evaluates differential expression data. We plan to use this software to gain insight into the differential expression of proteins in wheat endosperm under different experimental conditions. It is also the base platform for several bioinformatics programs that associate 2D gel image analysis data with mass spectrometer identification data, perform advanced data mining, and correlate proteomics data with micro array expression data. The USDA owns the first generation of bioinfomatics platform, Phoretix 2D database, with which progenesis is completely compatible. The USDA intends on negotiating with the only known source for this software, Nonlinear USA Co. Durham, NC.
