Description
Requirement Description: Contractor will be expected to provide a 3 day hands-on certification course to be conducted at Misawa AB, Japan, August 6-8, 2002 6-8, for approximately 12 students. Course should be designed as a valuable training experience for the apprentice and a comprehensive refresher for the skilled employee. This course should provide students with information on how and why cable testing is necessary. Cable construction principles of testing and evaluation of test results should be provided in detail to students. Critical information on cable testing and fault location of medium voltage cables should be covered. IEEE standards should also be reviewed and discussed. The purpose of the class is to provide students hands on learning by performing testing on medium voltage cables and locating faults with state-of-the-art equipment. Lab time is estimated to be approximately 80%. Other topics should include, but not be limited to, the following: Power cable testing, laboratory on cable testing, cable fault location Equipment: Training of the following equipment usage should be covered: Capacitive Discharge Equipment (thumper), Time Domain Reflectometer (TDR), Hypot, Insulation Resistance Test Sets, Acoustic/Magnetic Pulse Detection and Cable Route Tracing Equipment. The contractor should stress safety in all areas. Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to understand the principles of testing, describe the construction and the failure modes of cables, perform and evaluate results of insulation tests on cables, and locate faults on underground cables using an array of equipment.
