Description
NA The U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command intends to negotiate on a sole source basis a modification to Contract DASG60-00-C-0072 with Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company (LMSSC), Missiles and Space Operations, P.O. Box 3504, Sunnyvale, CA 94088-3 504 (the THAAD System prime contractor). The proposed acquisition is pursuant to the authority of FAR 6.302-1(a)(2)(iii)(a), only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements. The objective of this effort is t o provide support to the Missile Defense National Teams (MDNT), established by the Missile Defense Agency (MDA). This support will help bring about the transition to an overall, integrated Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS). The THAAD System Prime C ontractor, LMSSC, Sunnyvale, will be required to interact with the Missile Defense Industry National Teams for System Engineering & Integration (MDNTS)(I) headed by The Boeing Company and the Battle Management, Command and Control, and Communications team (MDNTB)(I) headed by LMSSC. The MDNTS and MDNTB (collectively MDNT) will establish the framework for an overall integrated BMDS. The integration of the BMDS will require direct interaction among the MDNTS, MDNTB and LMSSC. No other sources have the full insight into the capabilities, designs, performance and programmatic status of the THAAD EMD program to provide to the National Teams. The request for proposal is expected to be issued by 19 Apr 02. This date is for planning purposes only and is subject to change. The Government contemplates award of a CPFF modification to the current THAAD Engineering and Manufacturing Development Contract. See Numbered Note 22
