Description

R6 M.A.P.S. Neotropical Bird Work The USDA Forest Service, Pacific Northwest Region, intends to negotiate and award a noncompetitive contract with the Institute for Bird Populations, Point Reyes, CA, a non-profit organization, for the continuation of sample trend monitoring of the survivorship and productivity of breeding birds (focused on neotropical migratory birds) on National Forest lands in Oregon and Washington. The work required follows a strict process protocol called Monitoring Avian Productivity and Survivorship (M.A.P.S.)as a part of a nationwide/international effort to monitor and assess neotropical migratory birds. This work is highly specialized; intended contractor developed the M.A.P.S. effort and is the only known one of its kind in North America. Objectives are to monitor M.A.P.S. sites and assess data in relation to other M.A.P.S. sites in the western United States, nationally and internationally; to provide information to assist in the determination of the value of National Forest lands to breeding neotropical migratory birds; and to provide information to assist in the determination of the effect of land management practices on neotropical migrants that use Oregon and Washington National Forests.
