- Description
- The purpose of this Request for Solicitation is to assemble a collection of Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella, Escherichia coli, Enterococcus faecium and Campylobacter representing a geographically distinct historical collection. Approximately 1000 isolates of each genus will be analyzed. The isolates shall be representative of the United States over the time frame being considered. The information on the health status of the patient, from which the isolate was acquired, as well as drug use history, shall be provided where available. The contractor may subcontract portions of the work to third parties provided The Center for Veterinarian Medcine?s (CVM) requirements are not jeopardized. All isolates enrolled in the study will be made available to the CVM Office of Research for genetic analysis to estimate genetic relatedness. The prospective contractor shall be required to generate nationally representative susceptibility data on selected bacteria collected over the past 5 decades. This will be accomplished by identifying culture collections from around the US that have the appropriate demographic data. These organisms will be human and animal clinical isolates. The collection will be subjected to antimicrobial susceptibility testing using a broth microdilution method consistent with NCCLS standards. Relate the antibiograms of the isolates tested to the antimicrobial agent approval and use patterns in both human and food animal medicine. Isolates obtained from the historical collections will also be compared with recent isolates from various human specimens, including those obtained from the study of abattoir workers mentioned above. The overall objective of this study is to assist CVM in addressing the public health impact of antimicrobial use in food-producing animals. NOTE: Full specifications will be provided with the solicitation. The solicitation will be available on or about 24 May 2002 on the FedBizOpps website at http://www.fedbizopps.gov.
