- Description
- NA The 11th annual TACOM/Industry Logistics Symposium was held April 16-18, 2002 at the Northfield Hilton in Troy, Mich. The theme was Innovative Logistics--achieving the Army Transformation. This TACOM sponsored symposium was planned with administrative sup port from the Michigan Chapter National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA). This event brought together over 480 government and industry representatives to discuss issues and concerns relevant to the constant changes in the logistics environment. This was the first time the symposium morning and selected afternoon presentations were telecast live to all five TACOM sites (TACOM-Warren, Rock Island, ARDEC, and Red River and Anniston Army depots). The briefings were also telecast live to the Soldier, Biological, and Chemical Command (SBCCOM), the Communications Electronic Command (CECOM), and Fort Drum. It is estimated that over 300 government personnel viewed the proceedings by live telecast. The briefings, exhibits, and break-out sessions reflected many aspects of the transformation within the Department of Defense and the Army. The Army is transforming to a force that is tactically and strategically responsive, interconnected, has a reduced l ogistics trail, and is lethal across the spectrum of conflict. The presentations focused on the following: The Army transformation and AMC's role, logistics innovation, maintenance transformation, robotics, nano-technologies, future strategic issues/future warfare, unconventional warfare, the Army/DARPA technology pro gram, Abrams recaptilization sustainment initiatives, and science and technology. The briefings also covered transformation strategies, enablers for the objective force, revised acquisition strategies, modeling and simulation, and battlefield logistics. Representatives from the government and industry described the logistical and techni cal support required to meet the Department of Defense mission. The symposium received positive feedback from the attendees and those viewing the proceedings by live telecast.
