Description
NAICS Code: 541690 The USEPA intends to negotiate on a sole source basis, under the authority of FAR 6.302-1, with Wright State University, Dept of Research and Sponsored Programs. The USEPA has listed cyanobacteria and their toxins (cyanotoxins) on the drinking water Contaminant Candidate List (CCL) for regulatory consideration under the 1996 Amendments to the Safe Drinking Water Act. Based on workshops conducted in 2001, EPA has determined a priority list to evaluate cyanotoxins with consensus that ranking in the United States would be microcystins, cylindrospermopsins, anatoxin-a and saxitoxins. Screening method kits are available for microcystins, but not for cylindrospermopsins or anatoxin-a. The nature of this acquisition requires a contractor that has the capability of possessing one kilogram of harvested cylindrospermopsis cells and having the capability of purifying 30 mg of cylindrospermopsin and 20 mg of anatoxin-a for delivery to EPA. Cylindrospermopsin and anatoxin-a shall be extracted and purified to approximately 95% purity. The conjugate and hapten for cylindrospermopsins and anatoxin-a shall be provided to a business for commercial development of ELISA kits for these toxins. All work will be completed by September 30, 2002. This is not a request for proposal. Sources wishing to be considered must submit documentation within 10 days of the date of publication of this notice. Submit your request for consideration in writing to Renita Tyus at the address above, by email or by fax at 513-487-2115. If I am not available, you may contact Michael Brinkmiller at the same address or fax number. Michael Brinkmiller's email address is brinkmiller.michael@epa.gov. Telephone requests will not be honored.
