Description
MARKET SURVEY ? SOURCES SOUGHT SYNOPSIS: The Crane Division, Naval Surface Warfare Center, in support of the Marine Corps, is seeking prospective small and large high-technology/inventive firms interested in R&D/prototyping projects with relevance to the Linear Demolition Charge redesign effort. All interested sources are encouraged to submit a preliminary proposal to NAVSURFWARCENDIV Crane. CD ROM discs showing the general configuration of the Linear Demolition Charge are available for general information only from Ms. Stacy McAtee (mcatee_s@crane.navy.mil) who will mail one copy of this CD upon request to free-world interested parties upon compliance with program registration requirements. Specific topics are mentioned below by descriptive title only. Government Furnished Equipment (GFE), as well as access to government facilities may be offered to offset project costs . The objective of this program is a change the existing Linear Demolition Charge that will comply with Insensitive Munitions requirements. The final result will be a complete data package to replace the explosive Charge Assembly (drawing 53711-6318411) that is operationally and technically suitable for fielding to the USMC. Note that the current arresting cable, fuze, and fuze holder will be used. Firms having access to demonstrated research and prototyping capabilities are invited to submit preliminary proposals, not exceeding three pages of text that describes the general approach, previous related work and an estimate of overall costs (rough order of magnitude). Identification of the proposed technologies to be addressed (e.g., explosives, packaging, fuzing, assembly modifications, etc.) and the maturity of the technology is required. Testing at the compone nt level to demonstrate design acceptability must be identified. Explosives that are proposed for use in this system will be examined to assure they can be, or are, qualified for use (see NAVSEAINST 8020.5C) and can be approved for this particular application. If a design is determined to be suitable, six prototype units may be procured for testing to assure that the system can endure the environments encountered during transporting, handling, installation and field operation. At the current time, NO FUNDING IS AVAILABLE for contractual efforts. The US Government is in no way liable to pay for or reimburse companies or entities that submit preliminary proposals in response to this announcement. Nothing in this announcement constitutes an obligation on the part of the US Government. Questions regarding this announcements may be directed to Ms. Stacy McAtee, Co de 1162NS Bldg. 2521, NAVSURFWARCENDIV, 300 Highway 361, Crane, IN 47522, telephone (812) 854-1988, FAX 812-854-5095, or e-mail mcatee_s@crane.navy.mil.
