- Description
- The US Army TACOM-ARDEC is developing a MEMS based S& A for use in the Objective Individual Combat Weapon (OICW) System, 20mm High Explosive Air Bursting (HEAB) munition. This device will sense the dynamic conditions associated with gun launch and arm the projectile at the appropriate distance from the OICW gunner. The device will also keep the fuze safe until arming is acceptable. The US Army TACOM-ARDEC is planning to award a Sole Source contract to Alliant TechSystems located at Plymouth, Minnesota, the developers of the OICW system, to perform the test, evaluation and integration of the MEMS S&A device in the OICW projectile. This will require the redesign and packaging of the OICW fuze, interfacing the MEMS device into the fuze and explosive training and conducting laboratory, ballistic and fuze safety testing of the OICW projectile with MEMS S&A. It is anticipated that at least 4 iterations of MEMS S&A devices will be tested in the OICW projectile. An intimate knowledge of the OICW weapon, fire control, fuzing, explosive training and ballistic environment is required to complete this work. The projected time frame for completing this work is 24 month after award of contract. Notes 22 and 26.
