The Bombs and Pyrotechnics Team, Production Directorate is conducting a market survey to identify potential vendors capabl e of manufacturing conventional bomb bodies in 500, 1000, and 2000 pound size designations. The most recently planned procurement quantities for the three size designations (not necessarily produced concurrently) are as follows: 500 lb bodies (MK 82) 6,750/mo. 1000 lb bodies (MK 83) 1,000/mo. 2000 lb bodies (MK 84) 2,000/mo. Current schedules and stockpile requirements make it imperative that these production rates can be reached within one year of contract award. The OSC is analyzing the type of contract for future procurements regarding Multiple year (Base year w/option), Multi-year (3 or 5 year) and current 1 year length. Specific facilities, equipment, and skills required to manufacture subject items are as follows: Sufficient production facilities to receive steel tubing (up to 18 inches in diameter), cut to length (up to 8 feet), form nose and aft ends, rough machine, cut holes and weld inserts, heat treat, finish machine, test, paint, assemble and ship. Specific equipment may include: band saws/cutoff machines, large presses in the range of 1000 ton, large induction heaters, water cooling chambers, double end lathes, TIR gages/fixtures, wall thickness gages, flame/plasma arc cutters, MIG/robotic welders, CNC lathes, sub-arc welders, resistance welders, continuous flow heat treat/draw systems, shot blast systems, multiple spindle drills/tappers, CNC vertical mills/machining centers, push/pull/hydro test equipment, phosphate/paint systems, and various specia lized material handling equipment. A respondent to this market survey must have available the skills required to perform all production/testing operations on the specific equipment including forming, welding/resistance welding, heat treating, machining, testing, and assembling all subject b omb bodies. These skills must be available with sufficient experience and proficiency to produce these items in a timely and efficient manner. A respondent must also have available the appropriate maintenance, tooling, and manufacturing engineering skills required to support quality production of these items. A respondent must currently possess a majority of these processes in-house and demonstrate provisions for obtaining the remainder without significant delay. A detailed questionnaire including top-level drawings will be provided upon request to the POC. Interested firms who feel they are capable of manufacturing these items are invited to indicate their interest by providing to the Government a brief summary of the capabilities, including a description of facilities, personnel, and past manufacturing expe rience as it relates to the above criteria. Alternate manufacturing processes and methods may be considered.
