Description
Trawl vessel with a minimum registered length of 150 ft, and a minimum continuous horsepower from the main engine of 1500 are needed to perform a surface trawl survey in the central and eastern Bering Sea in the fall of 2002, with options to perform in 2003. Vessels must be able to tow a hexagonal mesh 400/580 rope trawl at surface to 5 meters depth at a sustained speed of no less than 9.3 km under normally expected fishing conditions, and a demonstrable capability to maintain a speed of at least 18.8 km/hr cruising speed in reasonable seas. Vessel must have sufficient fuel holding capacity to conduct survey operations for at least 32 days without refueling. Vessels must be completely rigged and ready to fish, including but not limited to the following: commercial scale trawl rigging; two net reels each with capacity for a model 400/580 rope trawl; split trawl winches with a minimum of 300 fm of 5/8-in diameter or larger trawl cable in good condition on each drum; a clean flush deck area of at least 400 sq ft; an enclosed, lighted, space suitable to allow processing of fish samples during severe weather; adequate fresh water for 10 people for 32 days; accommodations for crew and at least a 4-person scientific party. Minimum crew shall consist of a Captain, a cook-fishermen, a engineer-fishermen, and two other fishermen. Performance begins and ends in Dutch Harbor, Alaska on or about September 4, 2002 and will continue for 34 days. All responsible, responsive offers will be considered.
