Description
Offers are being sought for an Archaeological survey to locate and record all cultural resource sites and representative isolated cultural materials the Hungry Hunter Stewardship project proposed area. The contractor will be required to fully record sites and describe in detail the methodology of the work being conducted. The field methodologies employed will be in compliance with Forest Service reporting standards and Forest Service/Washington State Historic Preservation Office Programmatic Agreement Regarding Cultural Resource Management on NF?s in the State of Washington, (available on request hardcopy only). This will enable the Government to obtain cultural resources clearances for proposed activities per Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 as amended. For the purposes of this contract, survey transects for 100% survey are to be spaced no greater than 30 meters. The work for this project is located within the 20,000 acre Hungry Hunter Analysis Area on the Methow Valley Ranger District. It consists of surveys in varying percentages in multiple survey units, the boundaries, acreage, and percentage of coverage being identified on a map and accompanying table found in Appendix A. The project area is managed by the Okanogan & Wenatchee National Forest and is located approximately 14 miles S of Twisp, WA and 6 miles NW of Pateros, WA. The project area is accessed from State Road 153 between Pateros and Twisp to either of two access side roads, County Road 1020 (McFarland) on the North end of the project, or County Road 1004 (Squaw Creek) on the South end. This contract is scheduled to run from July 1, 2002 to August 20, 2002. Minimum qualifications of key personnel for Principal Investigators are: College Degree in Anthropology or Archaeology that includes undergraduate field school, plus1 year experience working in the Northwestern region of the United States, plus an additional 3 full years of professional on-the-ground archaeological survey experience and Demonstrated ability to coordinate and conduct field projects on schedule and Familiarity with Cartography, Cartographic conventions, and field site mapping methods.
