- Description
- The Manufacturing Metrology Engineering Laboratory (MMEL), National Institute of Standards and Technology, intends to negotiate on a sole source basis under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b) Only One Source Reasonably Available with Third Wave Systems, Inc., 7301 Ohms Lane, Suite 580, Minneapolis, MN 55439. MMSEL is charged with the responsibility of bringing to US Industry better means of understanding the physical details of the machining metal, and the integration of that understanding into fully serviceable models for shops floor use. Machining tests are conducted to develop databases as a way to create model databases to be used to test ideas for integration. The research requires the Third Wave Advantage Classic #3D software for computer simulation of machining specifically designed to develop the model metal cutting processes. The ?predictive package? should be appropriate for studies of metal turning, metal milling and metal drilling, and other popular cutting processes. Automated visualization of the simulation is a needed capability of the predictive package. Moreover, the predicted package will be used to cross check already existing and internal to NIST simulations based on the general methodology. Third Wave Systems, Inc. is the OEM and sole supplier of the AdvantEdge 3D. The purchase of the AdvantEdge 3D shall provide the available commercial source containing 60 types of library material (or database) that would help to reduce the need for floor shop labor, and machine time. NIST requires the following contract line items number (CLIN) CLIN 0001, quantity of 1, Third Wave AdvantEdge Classic 3; CLIN 0002, quantity of 4, User Interfaces; CLIN 0003, quantity of 1, Introductory Training; CLIN 0004; quantity of 1, 3D Training and Certification; CLIN 0005, quantity of 1, AdvantEdge Material Modeling Certification. A Firm-Fixed-Price Purchase Order will be issued. The NAICS code for this acquisition is 541330 and the size standard is $4M. This notice of intent is not a request for competition; however, interested parties may identify their interest and specific capability to respond to the requirement, in writing. Written responses to this synopsis must contain sufficient documentation to establish a bona fide capability to fulfill the requirement. The Government will consider all responses received by the closing date. A Request for Quotation is not available.
