- Description
- The USDA Forest Service, Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests, Alpine Ranger District, Apache County, Arizona, requires pruning and slash treatment on an estimated 112 acres. Correct identification of dwarf-mistletoe in Ponderose Pine and Douglas Fir will be necessary for work in all blocks. Felling involves conifers from 3 feet tall up to 13.0" DBH according to spacing and sanitation specifications. Most cut-trees 5" to 13" DBH are marked with orange paint. Pruning of dwarf-mistletoe-infected branches is required on all sized conifers. Piling of contract-created slash is required only up to 6.9" diameter; with trim, buck, and pullback of slash over 6.9" diameter to be let scattered on site. The Alpine Ranger Station is located at the junction of US Highways 180 and 191, approximately 30 miles south of Springerville, AZ. From the Ranger Station, proceed south on US Hwy. 191 for approximately 14.1 miles to FR26. Turn right (west) on FR26 and proceed for approximately 9.8 miles to the FR26/FR24 road junction. From this junction, follow the Unit Map to locate each block and access road. One block is currently accessible by open road. The other five blocks are reached by roads presently closed, but they will be opened by the USFS for the contractor after award. Estimated price range is $25,000 to $99,999.
