Description
USDA, ARS, Athens Location Office intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source, BioMerieux, Inc., to provide a biochemical identification system of microorganisms. This system is for identification of different organisms such as salmonella, campylobacter, E. Coli and other Enteric bacterial isolates from animal sources. Equipment requirements are: an optical scanner with computerized interpretation automatically reads each sample every hour to ensure reliability and reproducibility, a constellation center computer that runs the entire system and contains bioliaison software that is able to manage identification data, aid in statistical analysis, track the results of certain biochemical reactions, and export data in a format usable by MS Office software. The system needs to positively identify a variety of microorganisms including gram negatives, gram positives, and anaerobes in as little as 2 - 4 hours. Equipment should be able to automatically fill, seal, and incubate biochemical test cards with minimal lab personnel interaction. The unit should come with all necessary quality control organisms and start-up materials including buffers, sample test cards, and quality assurance parameters. The system must be capable of processing 32 samples at a time and be approved by the FDA. Free software updates should be available and training and set-up needs to be provided on site. Interested parties should submit written responses including prices and technical data sufficient to determine capability to meet the entire requirement and must be received in this office within 15 calendar days after publication of this notice. It should be noted that no contract will be awarded on the basis of offers received in response to this notice, but will be used to determine if a comparable source more advantageous to the Government is available. If no affirmative written responses are received, negotiations will be held with BioMerieux Inc. without further notice. This acquisition is being conducted under the Federal Acquisition Streamling Act, Simplified Acquisition Procedures. The anticipated award date is July 1, 2002.
