Description
LAWRENCE LIVERMORE NATIONAL LABORATORY SEEKS PARTNERSHIPS WITH INDUSTRY TO COMMERCIALIZE A METHOD FOR REMOVING METALS FROM AQUEOUS MEDIA. Announcement: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), operated by the University of California under contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), is seeking one or more industrial partners to commercialize LLNL's method for removing metals from aqueous media. Scientists at LLNL have invented materials to remove contaminating metals and organic compounds from aqueous media. The contaminants are removed by passing the aqueous phase through the materials in molded, granular or powder form. The materials adsorb the metals and the organics leaving a purified aqueous stream. The species-specific adsorption occurs through specific chemical modifications of the materials tailored toward the contaminant(s). The contaminated solids can then be disposed of or the contaminant can be removed and the solids recycled. The materials can be used to clean-up any aqueous stream with environmentally damaging materials such as ground water with uranium or heavy metal contamination, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) contamination, ground water or surface waters with petroleum product contamination or fuel spills, and waste storage tanks. Granular activated carbons have been used in conjunction with these newly invented materials. LLNL is in the process of patenting this invention. In the meantime, LLNL is seeking industrial partners to commercialize the invention. LLNL is also looking for collaborative research and development to improve the invention and to explore other usages of the invention. Note: THIS IS NOT A PROCUREMENT. Companies interested in commercializing LLNL's method for removing metals from aqueous media should provide a written statement of interest and a description of corporate capabilities relevant to commercializing the technology. Written responses should be directed to: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Industrial Partnerships and Commercialization P.O. Box 808, L-795 Livermore, CA 94551-0808 Attention: FBO02-012-299. Please provide your written statement within thirty (30) days from the date this announcement is published to ensure consideration of your interest in LLNL's subject title.
