Description
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) intends to negotiate, on a sole source basis, under authority of FAR 13.106-1(b)(1), Applanix Corporation, of Ontario, Canada, for acquisition of one (1) Position and Orientation System for Land Vehicles Applications, to be used in the Intelligent Systems Division (ISD), at NIST.*****Installation and training at the NIST laboratory shall be included.*****In addition, a one-year hardware warranty, on parts and labor, shall be included. Repairs shall be made at vendor's facility. Vendor shall provide an equivalent POS LV system on a no-charge, loan basis, while repairs are being made.*****Sole source determination is based on the Division's need for 100% compatibility between the System being purchased and the Applanix Corporation Position and Orientation System already in use in the Division. The new system will serve both as the position and orientation measurement system for a Mobility Program test vehicle, and as a set of backup hardware for the Applanix POS LV that is currently installed on another Mobility Program test vehicle. Such readily available spare components are required because of the high profile demonstrations in which the vehicles take part. Applanix is uniquely qualified to meet the Government's needs, as it is the only vendor able to provide, within the required timeframe, a commercial system that will be completely plug compatible (electrically, mechanically, and functionally) with the existing system so that each major component may serve as a spare for the equivalent component in the other system.*****Delivery shall be FOB Destination, Gaithersburg, MD, and is required within 30 days or less after receipt of order (ARO).*****The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition is 334516, and the size standard is 500 Employees.*****No solicitation package will be issued. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations. However, responses received by July 1, 2002, will be considered by the Government. A determination by the Government not to compete the proposed acquisition based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.*****
