Description
NASA/GRC plans to issue a Request for Quote for CENTORR ARC FURNACE.NATIONAL AERONAUTICS AND SPACE ADMINISTRATION GLENN RESEARCH CENTER Specification for the procurement of one Three- Electrode Plasma Arc Crystal Growing System Purchase Order Number 188727 A furnace is desired which can instantaneous achieve temperatures in excess of 3000?C and consist of the following characteristics three copper stinger rods which carry tungsten water cooled electrodes. Each rod is mounted into a swivel ball, which allows angular as well as vertical movement. Upper and lower water-cooled sections must be separated by a Pyrex observation tube. Power and water are to be fed to each of these sections by water-cooled power cables. The bottom section should contain an opening, which must accept and include copper and graphite, motor-driven rotating (speed variable from 0 to 2000 rpm) and elevating hearths. Hearth size must be 1.7 inches in diameter. The system should be capable of routine and continuous operation on -208 V at 60 Hz with water service of 1 GPM @ 70?F and 50 Psi inert gas - 1 to 5 CFH - Argon or Helium. The system must have an attached mechanical pumping system for evacuation and be capable of backfilling with inert gas along with ports, which provide for inert gas inlet and outlet. The system should also include an automated crystal puller, which can actuate smooth and precise linear motion from .009 inches/hour (0.23 mm/hr.) to 13.3 inches/hour (337.8 mm/hr.) with rotation speeds from 0.25 to 60 rpm. The system must be capable of routinely growing single well proportioned crystal oxides with melting points in excess of 2000C with no or relatively low concentrations of crystal defects. Furnace size should not exceed 17 in x17in x17in. The system must be installed and operationally demonstrated. This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR PART 12. This procurement is a total small business set-aside. See Note 1. The NAICS Code and Size Standard are 339111 and 500 employees respectively. The DPAS Rating for this procurement is DO-C9.
