- DESCRIPTION: The National Park Service, Isle Royale National Park, is soliciting proposals for all labor and materials necessary to re-power a Landing Craft, Mechanized, 69' (31 Meter), LCM-8, MOD-0, for Isle Royale National Park, Houghton, Michigan. The weight of the vessel is approximately 58.5 tons light and 113 tons loaded. Isle Royale National Park is a large, remote island encompassing 571,790 acres in Lake Superior located 70 miles from the mainland administrative area in Houghton, Michigan. Access to the island is limited to boat, and due to the duration of travel daily commutes are not an option, which necessitates stays of a few days in duration. The park is open from late April through October.
