- Description
- Notice of intent to negotiate a sole source contract with Dr. Weihs of the Technion Dept. of Aerospace Engineering for the Southwest Fisheries Science Center/National Marine Fisheries Service (SWFSC). Purpose of proposed contract is to investigate energetic constraints on dolphin swimming and implications for separation of mother-calf pairs in chase situations. Dr. Weihs only known source for this study due to his experience and expertise in both mathematical modeling and dolphin swimming energetics. Dr. Weihs is the acknowledged leader in the field and is well-known for his innovative modeling work focusing on the energetics of swimming in dolphins. Dr. Weihs' level of mathematical modeling expertise far exceeds that of any other researcher currently or previously investigating dolphin swimming energetics.
