- Description
- NA Force Health Protection Research: Health Risk Communication. On behalf of the Tri-Service Military Operational Medicine Research Programs, the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command is soliciting proposals for original research that identifies t he best delivery methods for health risk messages. Research must include outcome assessment of delivery method?s effectiveness on target audience. Ideally, the research would identify guiding principles and methods of delivering information to specific a udiences on a broad range of health risk topics such as; vaccine safety, health symptoms following psychologically stressful deployments, specific warnings about health risks such as inappropriate use of a prophylactic drug with pregnancy risks, failure to use an effective prophylactic drug in a real threat environment, health risks involved with smoking, and unprotected sex. In terms of the outcome assessment, clear health and performance outcomes such as alterations in susceptibility to disease, health-r elated behavioral changes, measures of target audience understanding and acceptance of intended message, and change in overall health of subjects. The research must be directly applicable to the military but does not necessarily have to include service mem bers as the test subjects. Collaborations with DoD biomedical research labs are encouraged. Proposals may not exceed a total cost of $500,000 including direct and indirect costs. No program projects will be considered. Approximately 10 awards are antici pated. Proposed research may extend to three years, but timeliness of research results will be considered in the award selection(s) and two year projects will be favored. Proposals should be submitted according to the general guidelines contained in the Broad Agency Announcement, available at http://www-usamraa.army.mil. The main body of the proposal shall not exceed 20 pages. Projects will be selected on the basis of scientific merit determined by external peer review and relevance to health of military forces determined by a Tri-Service working group. Proposals must be received at USAMRMC, ATTN: USAMRAA-AAA (Military Operational Medicine Research Program, 2002 FHP solicitation), Fort Detrick, Maryland 21702-5014 by 15 August 2002.
